Full time researcher at the Museums of the University of Lisbon, since 2006, Marta C. Lourenço has background training in Physics (University of Lisbon) and a MA in Museology (New University of Lisbon). Her PhD in Museology and History of Technology (CNAM, Paris) addressed the distinct nature and contemporary significance of university collections in Europe. She teaches a course on ‘Museums, Collections and the History of Science’ in the History and Philosophy of Science MA and PhD programme, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. Her research, teaching and consulting interests include university collections, the history of collections and scientific heritage. She supervises and co-supervises several post-graduate students in History of Science and Museology in Portugal and Brazil. She is PI of PRISC (Portuguese Research Infrastructure of Scientific Collections), included in the national roadmap of strategic research infrastructures.
Marta Lourenço is a research member of CIUHCT, the Interuniversity Research Centre for the History of Science and Technology (University of Lisbon). Since 2006, she is also President of UMAC, the Committee of ICOM for University Museums and Collections.
